Few-shot prompting

Also: in-context learning, few-shot examples

Putting a handful of worked examples in the prompt so the model infers the pattern from them. It pins down format and edge-case handling far more reliably than describing them in prose.

What people get wrong

No weights change. The examples cost tokens on every single call, which is what makes fine-tuning worth considering once a prompt needs dozens of them.

A definition is not an understanding. This is taught properly in Examples, and when they earn their cost, part of Prompting.
