Statistical significance
The judgement that a measured difference is bigger than what chance alone would plausibly produce, given the sample size.
What people get wrong
It says nothing about how large the effect is or whether it is worth having. A big enough sample makes trivial differences significant, and a small one hides real differences entirely.
A definition is not an understanding. This is taught properly in Is the difference real? Statistics for evals, part of Evaluation.
