Tool calling
Giving a model a set of described functions it may ask for, so that instead of answering it can emit a structured request that your code executes and feeds back.
What people get wrong
The model never runs anything. It produces a name and arguments; everything about what actually happens, including permission to happen at all, is your code's decision.
A definition is not an understanding. This is taught properly in How tool calling works, part of Tool calling.
