Asked about The RAG pipeline
What problem does RAG solve?
An answer that works
Models only know their training data, so they cannot answer about your private or recent documents, and they tend to invent an answer rather than decline. RAG retrieves the relevant text and puts it in the prompt so the answer comes from evidence.
Reading an answer is not being able to give one. The section that teaches this is The RAG pipeline, 4 hours of Retrieval-augmented generation.
